Vintage, the New Trend!

Writer's picture: Sandra ChairesSandra Chaires

One of our favorite wedding styles is Vintage. The new old! How can you make your special day so much more? As I started to learn more about my partner I fell in love with the collections of family heirlooms, pictures, and tiny details that his mom and many previous generations had passed on. Myself, not so many, as we moved from a different country, there is nothing that I can recall being in my life for more than a few years. I remember falling in love with the idea of different generations being incorporated into our special day, even those who were no longer here. Making the decision to incorporate the old and the new does not have to be expensive, yes, you can buy old things but honestly; look at your home and family for help with amazing pieces that will make your special day so much more.

1. The era

You do not have to choose a special era or time frame that sets a time period, rather incorporate items that you love and make this as personal as you can.

2. Dress me up Buttercup

Dresses do not have to be expensive. Try family members and or your own mom and mother in law for ideas. If you decide to take a dress, do ask if this is ok, and ask if it can be customized for your special day.

3. The Guys

Ask your soon to be hubby if there is a theme or specific year that he prefers. Men's formal fashion has not changed much. Adding special touches like hats, bowties and suspenders are a great way to include the guys in the theme.

4. Vintage Look

The most important part of this is that you and your girls get to feel as beautiful as you are. Do. do, do make an appointment to do trails prior to the special day. Using flowers and special time dated pieces like simple feathers add a touch of elegance without looking like you just left a Great Gatsby event. Look up your favorite Icons and explore the look you are going for.

5. Decor Anyone? Vintage bottles, nonmatching silverware, and soft colors add a homey feel. Look for elegant pieces that make a statement. Remember simple is key, take your time and enjoy the process.

6. Flower Power

It is really neat how even the simplest of flowers can make a statement. Find teapots, old silver pots, and glassware and use these as your centerpieces. Find a style that suits you and let that be your guide.

7. Family is Vintage We used 2 cake centerpieces on our cake that came from 2 other couples married generations apart. Black and white photos of prior Brides and Grooms were at our sign up table. Find the items that include more than you two and bring joy to others in your family as well.

More importantly, remember that you can add touches of vintage even to the most modern wedding. It is about merging the old with the new and bringing two families together as one to celebrate the new beginning of you!
